Additional Information
Additional Information
Every year brings a great movie. Every decade a great movie musical!
A gangster movie where all the gangsters are played by children. Instead of real bullets they use "splurge guns" that cover the victim in cream. The story tells of the rise of "Bugsy Malone" and the battle for power between "Fat Sam" and "Dandy Dan".
Release Date: September 15, 1976 @ the Baronet , Manhattan
Distrib: Paramount
Boxoffice: $2,783,840
Awards: Oscar nom: Best Song Score
This beloved musical/gangster film was one of Jodie Fosters 5 releases in 1976 which included TAXI DRIVER , ECHOES OF A SUMMER , BUGSY MALONE , FREAKY FRIDAY and THE LITTLE GIRL WHO LIVES DOWN THE LANE. The roles were : a prostitute;a dying girl; a gangsters moll; a body switch flick; and a murderess. Another words she played every type of female role except mother all in one year under the age of 14! Amazing.
She garnered an Oscar nod at 12 for TAXI DRIVER (she should have won) and went on to an illustrious career.
Not so for the other cast members except for Scott Baio who has seemed to have kept busy these 37 years.
This film polarized critics who either loved it or despised it. Its revered in England but was a boxoffice bomb here.
