Distrib: American International

Boxoffice: $8,000,000

American International Pictures had good luck with their H.G. Welles adaptations of FOOD OF THE GODS and EMPIRE OF THE ANTS.

Those were not very good films, whereas THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU has a larger budget and better cast .

It was fairly successful , but on a whole, the Summer of 1977 had great oppurtunities for blockbusters such as SORCERER, THE EXORCIST II , ROLLERCOASTER and ORCA. All were sucked into a vortex called STAR WARS.

Trivia: Which year in the 80s had a similar situation where one film dominated the summer?

What was that film?

In a twist of irony Burt Lancaster made a film in the 60s that in someway has something to do with the character he plays here. What film was that and what is the irony?

There was another 1970s film based on THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU. What film was that?
