Additional Information
The world's greatest LSD bust.

Based on a true story, the three-part British miniseries Operation Julie detailed a massive drug "sting" conducted by British authorities in the mid-'70s. Colin Blakely and David Swift headed the enormous cast as, respectively, Detective Inspector Richard Lee and Detective Superintendent Gosling. The target for the authorities was a covert operation specializing in the manufacturer and worldwide distribution of LSD. As a faithful retelling of the largest undercover drug investigation of its kind in the United Kingdom, the series garnered a huge audience in both England and Europe. After its initial British TV run from November 4 to 6, 1985 (courtesy of Tyne Tees Television), Operation Julie was re-edited and reissued as a 100-minute feature film.

Operation Julie was a UK police investigation into the production of LSD by two drug rings during the mid-1970s. The operation, involving 11 police forces over a two-and-a-half year period, resulted in the break-up of one of the largest LSD manufacturing operations in the world. It culminated in 1977 with enough LSD to make 6.5 million ‘tabs’ (with a street value of £6.5M) being seized, 120 people arrested in the UK and France and over £800,000 discovered in Swiss bank accounts.

A three-part television drama, called Operation Julie, was made by Tyne Tees Television and broadcast on ITV in 1985, closely following the events of the case from the police point of view. It was directed by Bob Mahoney.
The song "Julie's Been Working for the Drug Squad" by The Clash, from their second album Give 'em Enough Rope, takes its name from Operation Julie.[6][7]
In December 2010, Welsh actor Matthew Rhys bought the film rights to the book, Operation Julie: The World's Greatest LSD Bust, by Lyn Ebenezer.[8]
In July 2011, Leaf Fielding’s book To Live Outside the Law, gave the first insider account of Operation Julie
