A star-studded cast invigorates this film of a jazz trumpeter (Sammy Davis Jr.) who experiences both the prejudices of the music industry and terrible guilt following the traffic accident that killed his family, a tragedy he feels personally responsible for. Co-stars include several giants of jazz and popular music: Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Ossie Davis, and Mel Tormé, as well as Peter Lawford and Cicely Tyson.


A Man Called Adam is a 1966 dramatic film starring Sammy Davis, Jr., Ossie Davis and Cicely Tyson. Directed by Leo Penn, it tells the story of a self-destructive jazz musician, played by Davis, and his tumultuous relationships with the people in his life. In addition to Davis, the film features appearances by such noted musical names as Louis Armstrong, Mel Tormé and Frank Sinatra, Jr. The picture also marked the film debut of Lola Falana.


In its review, the Los Angeles Times was sharply critical of the film's script and pacing, but praised Davis' performance
