Finding the one you love... is finding yourself.
It's 4 years since Jack is back from Vietnam, but he still has nightmares. In a bus on his way to California he meets Carol, who just left her fiance - only 4 days before their wedding, allegedly just for a few days of vacation. Jack happily tells her about his plans to set up a worm farm for fishing baits together with four of his Vietnam ex-comrades. Although he gets on her nerves at the beginning, she starts to care. When one after the other of his friends steps out and Jack looses his optimism, Carol remains as the last support that keeps him from despair
Release Date: November 4, 1977
Distrib: Universal
Boxoffice: $33,500,000
As his first starring vehicle, Henry Winkler did very well with the equivalent gross of $120,000,000 today.
Critics were not kind to the movie but it proved that love stories need not be graphic to sell tickets. Paramount's sexually explicit FIRST LOVE opened the same day and bombed.
In the informative Betamax Rundown article its interesting to see a marquee for another vhs tape I put up-BROTHERS, in a still. That film came out in April 1977, so this got to theaters quickly.
