History / Information
Thriller Video was a sub-label for the company I.V.E. (International Video Entertainment, Inc.) and lasted from 1983-1986. They released an array of horror films, from Brittish TV to Italian gore-fests. Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, had signed onto Thriller Video to host many of the releases, most of which were from a Brittish television program. There were several titles she did not host, such as Make them Die Slowly (Cannibal Ferox), Buried Alive, Doctor Butcher M.D. The Next Victim, 7 Doors of Death, and Nightstalker. She either disagreed to do them, or Thriller Video decided to do them without her. They released titles in two formats, VHS and Beta, and in two case types, Big Box and Slip Case. The Beta tapes were distributed in the same Big Boxes as the VHS's, with the exception of an gold "BETA" sticker covering the VHS logo printed on the spine. Many of the Elvira Big Box releases came with a post card to sign up to the Elvira fan club. These cards are highly collectible, since few have survived the video rental age of the 80's.
